My Favorite Things

Coffee anyone?

Mmmmmm….

Coffee… just the word can evoke emotions!  Yummmm…. yuuuuccck…. most either love it or hate it.  Or in the case of my oldest son, he loves the smell, but hates the taste.  Me?  I LOVE the smell of coffee!  I love the taste of coffee. (More on that in a minute)  That smell, when you roll out of bed and it’s already brewing, comes wafting toward you, it hits your olfactory nerve and all you can think is mmmmmmm!  It starts waking you up the second you smell it.

I am one of those people who almost HAS to have a cup of coffee in the morning to be able to function.  I know I’m not the only one, you know who you are!  Addiction?  Maybe.  Terrible?  If I rely on this as my sole support for the day instead of my Heavenly Father, then yes.  Which I don’t, so I think I’m ok.

Coffee paraphernalia

I am spoiled with a husband who loves coffee about as much as me.  He’s typically up before me and starts the pot brewing.  I roll out of bed just as the pot is almost finishing… I.AM.SPOILED!  I know it.  My husband loves me.  But let’s be honest… he’s waiting for that first cup just as much as I am!  You know those commercials where the actor is standing right in front of the coffee maker, with the cup in hand, just waiting for it to stop dripping?  Yep, that’s me!  It’s real!

It’s so bad that when my husband travels, I seriously don’t even know how to make it.  Pathetic, I know.  I own it, but thank heaven’s for the invention of the K-cup!  We have a coffee maker that can brew both ways… so I’m saved!

Coffee Signs

Are you a coffee snob?

Unfortunately, I’m a little bit of a coffee snob.  I’m not exactly sure what the real definition of that is, but I have to have my coffee with cream and sugar.  I wish I could drink it black, but alas, it’s just not going to happen.  If I don’t have access to cream and sugar, then I don’t drink it.  I’m not meaning to be a snob, but that medium brown, mocha-looking color is where it’s at!  At least for me.

My husband is a coffee snob too, but he’s more of a snob on taste.  We’ve been trying different coffees over the last several years and just about the time we think we’ve found THE blend, the store either stops carrying it, or we can’t get the grind just right and the flavor wanes.

Zoom Doggy

Enter Zoom Doggy Coffee Roasters!  OH.MY.GOODNESS!  We are in heaven!  They are a micro batch roaster out of Aurora, IL and they are uh.maze.ing!!!  They roast and ship to order, meaning beans are as fresh as possible!  So, so good… I’m almost drooling just thinking about it!  Actually, my husband is sipping on a cup of it as I sit here on the couch and type this!  So not fair, right?  My hands are busy!

We ordered 2 different roasts to try, Nicaragua and Guatemala, and quickly got hooked on the Guatemala blend (hence, no bag pictured, because we’re out of it again!).  It has a deep, rich, “sweet acidity with pleasant fruity notes”, that we hadn’t found from any other beans.  Zoom Doggy excels at “recommendations and profile matching”, which came in handy when they were out of the Guatemala blend for a short while.  They steered us toward the Mexico blend, which had very similar flavor, but not enough to make us switch long-term.  We anxiously await the Guatemala to come back in stock!

I love grabbing my freshly brewed (by my dear hubby) cup of coffee (from my Coffee Bar) and start my day with mmmmmmm….  Then I find a comfy chair, pull out my devotional and REALLY start my day the right way, with a little quite time with the one who created those coffee beans for me in the first place.  To paraphrase a popular coffee ad slogan… now that’s ‘the best part of waking up’!

**UPDATE 4/12/19: Some good things must come to an end.  I am saddened to report that Zoom Doggy Coffee has closed it’s doors.
